Project 3 Alpha -
Devblog 04/13/2026
Last week we were able to show the concept of our project. Since then, we mainly focused on optimizing and showing how it works on a mobile device – since that is ultimately our goal. The particulars took a while to work out – the window size, the default zoom window size, and just tweaking a few little things with the appearance of the items in the menu. We wanted to add image tracking and models of pets, so we made those customizable.
We thought about how it would work when users (typically 10+ students) are able to see updates to other pets, which was not possible in our last milestone. Image tracking was not successful at first, but we made the appearances of pets a little more customizable through the shop menu. The most time consuming and laborious accomplishment was building it on iOS – this took way longer to get working than we anticipated, and unfortunately, we had to put a hold on a lot of our other ideas to prioritize that. As we hone down the scope of our project, these points in particular came to mind for the next and final milestone:
We would like to ensure image tracking runs smoothly.
We would like to improve the 3d modeling of the pets to make them look like they integrate a little more smoothly in the natural environment of a classroom.
Finally, we plan to build up the interaction a bit more for the instructors’ convenience, which means being able to add their own questions, and changing the frequency of when the questions pop up, and the format and structure (i.e True or False, select all that apply, and complete the sentence).
